The Coastal Tsunami (3-0) took down the Port Moody Panthers (1-3) in their first-ever win on home ice in front of a sold-out crowd at the GACC.
Special guests, including PJHL Commissioner Trevor Alto, Mayor Silas White, SCJHS President Stu Frizzell, SCRD Chair Leonard Lee, and Director of Operations Rick Hopper, participated in the pre-game ceremonies.
Port Moody struggled offensively and was just as bad in their own zone, giving up seven goals on 44 shots. Four different players scored for the Tsunami, while Port Moody only managed to score once against Tsunami captain Nick Peters.
Peters stopped 39 of 40 shots, while Panthers goaltender Ty Angus went 37 of 44 between the pipes.
Raydon Parkes scored the first-ever goal at the GACC and would manage a second with 10:08 on the clock in the first period. The Tsunami would hold that 2-0 lead for the following two periods.
Six goals were scored between the two teams during the final period of regulation, including three from the Tsunami in two minutes and thirteen seconds.
Keiran Wilkie notched his first PJHL goal, and Ethan Smid scored two goals, which were nine seconds apart.
The lone goal for the Panthers came off the stick of Sahijpal Aujla on the man advantage. The goal was his first with Port Moody since being traded by the Kodiaks in the off-season.
The Tsunami regained their five-goal lead at 11:36 when Oliver Nottingham sniped his first of the year.
With just a few seconds remaining in the game, Ethan Smid would find the back of the net again to register the first-ever hat trick in Tsunami history.
It was a 7-1 final for the home team and a very memorable game. Up next, the Coastal Tsunami hosts the White Rock Whalers on Friday.
